Born in the Netherlands with Dutch-Indonesian heritage, Chef Syrco Bakker has always drawn inspiration from his roots, nature, and culture. After over a decade leading Pure C in Cadzand, where he earned two Michelin stars, 18/20 points from Gault&Millau, and was named Chef of the Year 2022, Syrco has returned to Indonesia to begin a new journey.
Now based in Ubud, Bali, he brings his expertise and personal story to life through Syrco BASÈ and KU culinary atelier, a dual-concept space dedicated to conscious dining and creativity. Here, he works closely with local farmers, foragers, artisans, and producers to highlight the richness of the region’s ingredients, traditions, and people.
Syrco’s food is thoughtful, precise, and deeply rooted in connection to land, season, and story. Through each dish and collaboration, he continues to push boundaries while honoring the culture that shaped him. His work is a reflection of his values: sustainability, craftsmanship, and a commitment to leaving the world better through food.
