Tirta Empul Temple, located in Tampaksiring, Gianyar, is one of Bali’s most sacred water temples. At its heart is a natural spring believed to possess powerful cleansing energy, feeding a series of purification pools lined with spouts. Balinese Hindus come here to perform melukat, a ritual bathing ceremony to purify the body, mind, and soul.
